Mayor Daley's Bicycling Ambassadors
Mayor Daley’s Bicycling Ambassadors are the City of Chicago’s bicycle outreach and education specialists. Ambassadors attend events across the City of Chicago, encouraging people to use their bicycles safely and more often. The Ambassadors provide face-to-face education by engaging people in discussions about safe bicycling. They also give demonstrations to kids, teens, and adults. The Bicycling Ambassador season is from mid-May to mid-September, Ambassadors work full-time during this season. Mayor Daley's Bicycling Ambassadors are hired by the Active Transportation Alliance in the spring. Please check back then for more information.
After School Matters Instructors
After School Matters Instructors lead the 16-week After School Matters – Junior Ambassadors apprenticeship. After School Matters Instructors work in teams of two to teach bicycle safety and repair to 25 – 30 teenagers. The curriculum includes bicycle mechanics, bike safety, and public speaking. After School Matters instructors are hired by the Active Transportation Alliance in the fall.
Mayor Daley's Junior Ambassadors
(high-school students only)
Junior Ambassadors are teenagers who work with Mayor Daley's Bicycling Ambassadors for six weeks in the summer. Teens are eligible for hire if they successfully complete the 16-week After School Matters – Junior Ambassadors apprenticeship. Junior Ambassadors are hired by the Chicago Park District and Mayor Daley's Bicycling Ambassadors in the late spring. |
